The barred owl habitat is low, wet woods and swampy forest. Barred owls are common at Wapanocca, and can sometimes be seen on cloudy days during daylight hours. They feed on rodents, birds, frogs, and crayfish. The Barred Owl, the Eastern-screech-owl, and the Great Horned Owl nest at the refuge.
