I have continued to do UNIX System Administration since leaving ASU, first at Federal Express, International Paper, Solectron Global Services and now at IBM. At IBM I work primarily with their RS/6000 line of machines and with the SP2. I get a chance to travel and work in many different environments which is nice, and I like it a lot. I cover mostly the Midsouth area. I deal mostly with AIX, some HPUX, but I have to get involved with the hardware side quite a bit still. I'm also working with IBM mass storage arrays now. I'm what they call a mobile employee so I can even work from home. I only go in to the office when necessary and then we have a virtual office. My manager actually lives in Charlotte, North Carolina so that gives me a lot of freedom and flexibilty. They encourage us to get all the training we can get our hands on which is nice. I even have (2) RS/6000 servers at home and a partial drawer of SSA drives. I run AIX on one and have plans to run Linux on the other. I never thought Linux would make it this far but IBM supports it too. I just got back from Boston where I took a high availability course. Most customers now are buying two machines for availabilty reasons, especially those that use their machines for e-commerce.
