Alumni Experiences

Greg Hester - B.S. (Mathematics) 1980

The time I spent at ASU gave me the background and experience I needed to successfully complete my MS degree at Virginia Tech. Upon completion of my graduate work in 1982, I was hired as a geophysicist at Shell Oil Company, where I've spent most of my career working in seismic data processing and acquisition. The first fifteen years were spent primarily in the continental U.S. and deepwater Gulf of Mexico, and as of January 1998 I'm now on a four-year special assignment in Rijswijk, The Netherlands working with Shell International Exploration and Production, B.V.

I often think about the opportunities I may have missed had I not had the guidance and help of the faculty and staff of the ASU mathematics department to get me started in the right direction. I truly believe that this guidance and the education I received at ASU were the basis of the enjoyable and exciting career with which I'm involved.
